Overview

The trends in different treatment types have come and gone over the years, but the one thing remaining constant within the sector, is the demand for training, so for many therapists, the next step in their career is into the teaching arena. Working as a therapist or a nail technician in a salon will have given you years of invaluable experience, which you can now use by training the next generation of beauty professionals. Let’s get started!

What do I need to do?

This may seem obvious, but you will need to make sure that you hold the relevant qualifications in all of the subjects you want to teach; however, it is good practice to make sure that you hold the highest level yourself, or at least be working towards it.

You may know your own subject inside out and have years of experience, but the ability to convey that knowledge on to someone else, is an entirely different skill, which is why you will need to hold a teaching qualification.

Your learner needs to leave your classroom with the knowledge to be able to implement the skills and information they have acquired from you and a teaching qualification will explain to you the best ways to go about that. It will also give you the confidence to stand in front of a class full of students and deliver your session.

Targeted at beauty therapists, holistic therapists and nail technicians who are new to the teaching environment, the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) is the recognised and accredited UK entry level teaching qualification that you will need to start your new career. Awarding bodies such as BABTAC will require you to have this qualification when signing up with them.

What does the Level 3 Award in Education and Training involve?

With regards to the assessments for this qualification, you will need to complete three written assignments.  These will be found within your online portfolio. You will also need to complete a 15 minute micro-teach on a subject, that has been chosen by yourself.  This needs to be recorded by you and uploaded to us at Axiom Dynamics, through our e-learning platform.  Finally, you will complete peer and self-evaluations, but again, templates for both of these will be in your portfolio. Your course tutor will then send you feedback on all your assessments.

Do not worry as your course tutor will be there to guide you the through the whole process and support is only an email away.

What do I need to do next?

Once you have registered for this level 3 teaching qualification, we will email you your unique online portfolio.  You will be required to complete this as part of the qualification, but do not worry, we will explain this to you via a video conference call, for example Zoom or Teams, and at an agreed time with yourself so you have an understanding of what it is you need to do.

What support will I receive?

To help you complete this level 3 teaching qualification, and within your portfolio, you will find PowerPoint presentations, voiceovers and tutor notes that relate to each unit. We will also send you two e-textbooks, ‘The Award in Education and Training’ and ‘Passing Assessments for the Award in Education and Training’, both by Ann Gravells, and an additional e-version of our Level 3 AET delegate pack, that includes more information, lesson notes and templates. We advise you to use these for your further reference and guidance when it comes to assessments.

Your dedicated online tutor will also be on hand should you run into any difficulty while completing the qualification.

Hopefully, this short explanation has given you a better understanding of what is required to be able to become a tutor within the beauty industry, however, should you have any further questions please do get in touch with us here.

Thank you.
