Course Overview

The objective of this qualification is to support a role in the workplace. It is designed for learners wishing to apply for a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a door supervisor and is based on the relevant SIA specification for learning and qualifications. This course includes your Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) training and certificate.

This course runs over 7 consecutive days.

The First Aid course is a separate qualification that takes one day to complete.

The Door Supervisor course is 6 days long and is divided into 4 units which cover everything from the legal aspects of security to the latest physical intervention techniques.

Method of Assessment:

Learners must complete:

  • Practical observation: the practical assessment is completed throughout the course delivery. This ongoing practical assessment requires learners to demonstrate the completion of an evidential statement alongside searching and using communication devices. The learner is also practically assessed in conflict management during a scenario followed by the application of physical intervention techniques. The practical assessment will be recorded in line with the new requirements using the practical matrix within the Assessment Pack.
  • Externally set and marked multiple-choice theory assessment: learners are required to answer a series of questions contained within theory question papers covering each of the disciplines. Who is the Level 2 Award in Door Supervision for?

The Door Supervisor Licence allows holders to work in the private security industry in a variety of roles. The licence is issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and is valid for 3 years. With the SIA Door Supervisor Licence individuals can work in:

Door Supervisor Training or Security Guard Training

We often get asked about the difference between a Door Supervisor Licence and Security Guard Licence. Door Supervisor Licence allows you to work as a Door Supervisor and a Security Guard vs Security Guard Licence, which only permits you to work in a Manned Guarding role.
Most employers from experience prefer the Door Supervisors Licence over the Security Guard Licence.


To register for this qualification, learners must be aged 18 and over.
Learners will need to show that they hold a current and valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate* that meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. It is an SIA requirement that training centres must confirm that each learner is sufficiently qualified in First Aid or Emergency First Aid.
Learners should present their First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate* to their training provider before they start training. This certificate* must be valid for at least 12 months from the course start date.

Language prerequisite

Security operatives are likely in the course of their work to be required to make calls to the emergency services, or for example communicate to resolve conflict. It is essential that security operatives can communicate effectively.
It is the centre’s responsibility to ensure that each learner is sufficiently competent in the use of the English and/or Welsh language. All assessment must be conducted in the medium of English and/or Welsh as appropriate.
Learners should, as a minimum, have language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Training centres must ensure that all learners have sufficient reading, writing, speaking and listening language skills before putting the learners forward for training and assessment.

ID requirements

It is the responsibility of each centre to have systems in place to ensure that the person taking licence-linked qualifications is indeed the person they are purporting to be.
All centres are therefore required to ensure that each learner’s photograph and formal
identification documents are checked and recorded before they are allowed to sit the
