Overview

At the Axiom Dynamics Training Academy, we get lots of queries about the Teaching Evidence folder that makes up part of the portfolio for the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET), formerly known as the Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector or CTLLS for short. Today I would like to welcome you to this overview of what you will need to do to complete this.

As you will be aware, the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is intended for the reflection and evaluation of your current teaching role; therefore, this qualification is devised to further develop these skills. Along with your assignments, your teaching evidence folder will make up part of your portfolio and will include various elements that will be used as evidence by your assessor.

Below is a short description of what you will need to complete for each part, so you have a clear understanding of it is you have to do.

Learner Details

This is for us to learn more about you. It includes the usual things like your name and contact details, but there are also other things we need to know, so there is a short pre-course assessment to complete. This consists of a VARK test, any Recognised Prior Learning you may have and also a section to upload identification, which is a requirement by the awarding body.

Achievement Summary Sheet

This document allows you and your course tutor to see at what stage you are at in your qualification. It shows the units you have completed and the dates when you met them. You will continually update this as you work your way through the qualification.

Specimen Signature Sheet

The specimen signature sheet is a copy of your signature to be used on all documentation. You will need to provide a copy of your signature on this sheet. You can insert an image file into the table in the document or you can print, scan and upload the document, whichever is more manageable for yourself.

Assignments

The assignments folder is where you will write the answers to your assignment questions. There are templates relating to each unit which you will need to complete to the required standard. We will send you two e-textbooks both by Ann Gravells and an additional e-version of Axiom Dynamic’s delegate pack, that includes more information, lesson notes and templates. We advise you to use these for your further reference and guidance when you are answering the assignment questions as they contain lots of relevant information.

Assignment Examples

We have also included assignment examples within your portfolio. These examples are there to assist you, so you have some an idea of what is required when it comes to submitting your answers. We would, however, ask that you DO NOT copy and paste the content from the examples into your workbooks. They will be checked for plagiarism by your course assessor and the external quality assurer and any workbooks that have been plagiarised will not be accepted. This will result in you running the risk of failing this course.

Learners Initial Assessment

This area is for you to upload any initial assessments that you have conducted with your learners or any induction documents that you have sent to them. This can include course information, pre-course tests or assessments they may need to complete before starting the program you are delivering. We will also need to have three completed initial assessments from your learners, but we have provided you with an initial assessment template that you can use.

Teaching Log

The teaching log is there to demonstrate your 30 hours of teaching evidence practice. It shows the course that you were teaching, the dates and the length in hours in which you delivered to your learners. This can be across several different subjects, levels and learners.

Individual Learning Plan

You will need to complete this document for one of your learners. This plan is to understand more about your learners. It includes information such as their current role and qualifications they may hold. It also shows their progress on the qualification they are on and when they achieve each of the learning outcomes.

Scheme of Work

Your scheme of work will show the breakdown of your 30 hours of teaching. If this is across several courses, you will need to upload a scheme of work for each one. If, however, you have delivered one course that equates to the full 30 hours, then you will only need to upload one scheme of work. You will need to include dates and timings into this as evidence that you have met the required hours.

We have included two templates for you to use in your portfolio. One is a word document, the other is an excel spreadsheet and you can use whichever one you prefer or you are more comfortable with.

Session Plan

Something else you need to complete is your session plan. This will be in line with your scheme of work/s and will cover your thirty hours of teaching but includes more detail. Each of your sessions must be a minimum of thirty minutes long and include the resources you used, for example, presentation, handouts and any other relevant teaching materials. You should also demonstrate here how the session catered for inclusion and the minimum core of literacy, language, numeracy and ICT skills. Again though, we have included a template for you to use for this, should you not have your own.

Session Upload

This folder gives more information on what you need to have in place to complete your session, for example, the minimum number of learners required, how to conduct the session and detail on how to record the session.

We will also ask that you use wetransfer.com to send your session recording to us, but we have included a tutorial video in this folder to explain to you how this is done. As always, if you do experience any technical difficulty when you submit your assessments via the website, you can always email us for assistance. We will be more than glad to help.

Session Observation Records

Once we have received your session recordings, we will review the delivery and provide you with feedback on your 3 hours of delivery. There is a document within this folder to give you an idea of what we will be looking for when we are observing your session delivery. You will then need to sign the feedback documents that we send to you and upload them to your portfolio.

Learner Observation Records

As part of the Certificate in Education and Training course, you will need to review the delivery of three sessions. We have included three videos within your folder for you to review and provide feedback on. These videos vary in both tutor and session, with a beginning, a middle section and an end, to allow you the opportunity to review each stage. The observation records include the assessment criteria you should be looking for in each of your reviews and a detailed account should be written for each.

Learner Evaluation and Feedback

In this folder, you will find three Learner Evaluation and Feedback forms. These are to be handed to your learners to fill in, on completion of you delivering a session to them. You will need to provide three feedback forms, from three separate learners and then upload these.

We have included Evaluation and Feedback Templates in your folder that you can use, however, if you have your own feedback layout then you may use that if you prefer to.

Self-Evaluations

As I said at the beginning of this overview, part of the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is to do with your own reflection and evaluation. After each lesson, you must take time to reflect on how your session and delivery went for you, so for this section you will need to complete three self-evaluations on your delivery. This includes things like your planning, assessment practices and resources used to meet the individual needs of learners, all in your own area of specialism. Again, we have given you templates to be used which highlight the assessment criteria that needs to be achieved.

Syllabus or Specification

This section is where you upload the syllabus or qualification specification that relates to the session you have delivered.

This is important as it provides information on the units involved in your session, the time-scale of the course and the assessment process within it.

If you are teaching more than one course as part of your observations, you will need to include the additional syllabus or specifications in here that relate to that observation.

Teaching Resources

This area is for uploading any resources you have used in the delivery of your sessions. These can be things like powerpoint presentations, worksheets or videos. You can also include photographs of these resources, but if you do, please give a detailed account of what resource it is the picture shows, what and where it is used and how effective it is within your lesson. Also, try to include a variety of resources to bring your sessions to life as these will help keep your learners engaged.

Communication

This area is for uploading any evidence of communication between you, your learners and any other staff concerning the delivery of your sessions. This could include screenshots of emails, meeting agendas or minutes of a meeting or even internal requests for the use of resources within your own organisation.

Evidence Tracking Sheets

Your final folder is your evidence tracking sheets. The awarding organisation requires that you add the dates of when you have completed each unit. Once you have fully completed the tracking sheet, you will need to sign the last page and then use the upload feature to send it to us. These will then be countersigned by your course tutor/ assessor and potentially by an Internal Quality Assurer.
